MUSIC FOR PLANTS
THE PROCESS
The process I employ for composing music specifically tailored for plants involves marrying scientific data with the inherent beauty of the plants themselves. By combining research and the artistic inspiration triggered by the aesthetic qualities of various plants, I strive to create harmonious compositions that enhance the growth and well-being of plants.

To begin, I did some very specific research on plant and how they respond to different frequencies of sound. This scientific understanding served as the foundation for my compositions, ensuring that the music I create resonates with the physiological needs of plants.
In doing this research, I discovered that the recordings of actual plants sounds are like clicking or, for a lack of better words, popcorn or tap dancing. |

In reading quite a few different articles and hearing examples of these plant sounds, I discovered that consistently, when plants are stressed or unhealthy, they make more vigorous clicks and when they are happy and healthy, they emit very few clicks.

I analyzed a few of these sounds and utilized this to direct my writing process in a way that made the rhythms behind the melodies and counter melodies to be light and as few notes as possible to mirror the language of the plants. Additionally, I also mirrored some of the rhythms of the examples of healthier plant sounds.
Simultaneously, I drew inspiration from the naturally inherent beauty and visual intricacies of different plants themselves. Each plant possesses its own unique form, color, and texture, and these visual cues inspire me to infuse my compositions with parallel aesthetic qualities. After this delve into sewing the seed of the muse behind the actual translating of this into audial language, I sat down to my piano and carefully developed musical elements that reflected the plant's characteristics. Be it gentle melodies mimicking the graceful movement of leaves, the rhythmic patterns inspired by the swaying of branches or the specific colors characteristic to the plant…each composition is thoughtfully crafted to encapsulate the essence of the plant. |
Ultimately, my process for composing music for plants stems from an interdisciplinary approach, bridging the gap between science and art. I seek to provide a deeply enriching experience for both plants and humans, acknowledging the intrinsic relationship between nature and creativity. Through this marriage of science and inspiration, my aim is to create music that not only nourishes the plants but also resonates with the human soul, fostering a harmonious connection with the botanical world.
